Dolly Parton was born on January 19, 1946, on the 19th of January 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. She grew up alongside 12 other kids. Her imaginative mind helped her escape from the pressures of daily life. Prior to learning how to read or write, she composed herself songs. When she was eight, she bought her first electric guitar. She began singing on a Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. She recorded her first album within the same calendar year with Gold Band Records, a tiny independent label. In high school she was able to establish herself within the school community but her goals were bigger. After graduating from high school in 1964 she moved immediately to Nashville. Porter Wagoner began looking for female singers to join his TV show syndicated by a network at approximately the same as the time. Parton accepted the role in 1966.
